SCOAP3 – the Sponsoring Consortium for Open Access Publishing in Particle Physics – is an initiative launched by CERN, representing an international scientific collaboration among public research institutions and universities. SISSA has been a partner of the initiative since its inception, sharing in its mission to reduce the costs associated with publishing and subscribing to scientific journals. Formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the establishment and operation of SCOAP3, the collaboration was subsequently ratified via agreements between CRUI and INFN, and has been recently renewed.
Now in its third phase, SCOAP3 has expanded to include the "SCOAP3 for Books" initiative, which will publish open access books free of charge both for authors and readers. In partnership with ICTP, two Open Access monographs were recently published by SISSA Medialab with authors from SISSA: Tensor Network Techniques for Quantum Computation and Non-Perturbative Quantum Field Theory.
