"De Rerum Natura" è il titolo del nuovo concorso fotografico promosso dal Laboratorio Interdisciplinare della SISSA. Un richiamo alla natura, ma anche alla scienza: è infatti anche il titolo del famoso poema di Lucrezio, dove lo stupore e la meraviglia per la natura si intrecciano allo sguardo analitico dello scienziato. Per raccontare la natura e la scienza, le immagini sono uno strumento fondamentale e proprio per questo la SISSA chiede al pubblico dei fotografi amatoriali di proporre una fotografia che rappresenti un fenomeno naturale o un momento della ricerca scientifica.
Come spiegano gli organizzatori, "le fotografie che partecipano al concorso devono esprimere, in modo originale e creativo, realistico o simbolico, la bellezza delle leggi naturali e della Natura stessa, intesa nel senso più ampio del termine". I temi privilegiati sono la fisica, la matematica e le neuroscienze e le fotografie ricadranno in due categorie: natura (la bellezza dei fenomeni naturali e delle sue leggi) e scienza (il fascino della scienza nella visione dell'uomo, includendo in questo anche immagini di vita quotidiana nei laboratori scientifici).
Il concorso è aperto a tutti i fotografi amatoriali, senza limiti di età o nazionalità. Oltre a un premio simbolico, una targa che verrà assegnata il 13 giugno 2014 in occasione dell'evento "Sissa in Festa", sono previsti premi in denaro (650, 400 e 250 euro lordi) per i primi tre classificati di ciascuna categoria. Le fotografie vincitrici (e le altre selezionate) verranno inoltre esposte alla SISSA a partire dallo stesso giorno.
La data ultima per l'iscrizione è il 30 aprile 2014 alle ore 12.00.

"De Rerum Natura" is the title of the new photo contest promoted by the Interdisciplinary Laboratory of SISSA. A call to nature, but also to science: "De Rerum Natura" is in fact also the title of the famous poem by Lucretius, where amazement and wonder about nature are interwoven with a scientist's analytical approach. Images are fundamental for telling about nature and science, and that's why SISSA is asking amateur photographers to submit a photograph representing a natural phenomenon or a moment in time in scientific research.
As the organisers explain, "photographs submitted for the contest should express, in an original and creative, realistic or symbolic manner the beauty of the laws of nature and of nature itself, in the widest sense of the term". Preferred themes are physics, mathematics and neuroscience, and the photographs will fall into two categories: nature (the beauty of natural phenomena and laws of nature) and science (the fascination of science as seen by man, including also images of day-to-day life in a scientific laboratory).
The contest is open to all amateur photographers, with no limits of age or nationality. In addition to a symbolic prize - a plaque that will be awarded at the "Sissa in Festa" Open Day on 13 June 2014 – there will be prizes (650, 400 and 250 euro gross) for the three winning entries in each category. The winning photographs (and a selection of other entries) will be exhibited at SISSA starting June 13.
