We are delighted to announce that Massimiliano Berti, full professor of Mathematical Analysis, has been invited to speak at the International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM) 2026, taking place in Philadelphia from 23 to 30 July at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. The ICM is the world’s most prestigious mathematics conference, held every four years by the International Mathematical Union (IMU) since 1897. The opening ceremony features the awarding of some of the highest honours in mathematics, including the Fields Medals, the Abacus Medal (formerly the Nevanlinna Prize), the Gauss Prize, and the Chern Medal.
Prof. Berti will present in the section on partial differential equations—an invitation that recognises the significant impact of his research in this field.
“The invitation to ICM 2026 is for me a great joy and a profound honour, a magnificent recognition of many years of rigorous, fascinating and fruitful research — carried out without compromises, always seeking innovative directions, and shared with many friends, colleagues and PhD students over the years,” says Massimiliano Berti. “I wish to express my gratitude for the trust placed in me from an early stage by those who guided me — in particular the unforgettable Antonio Ambrosetti, who always encouraged me to explore new paths. Many of the major results from recent years — with many more still to come! — have solved problems I began working on over twenty years ago. It is, ultimately, a splendid acknowledgement of the outstanding level of research at SISSA, an environment that has supported me greatly and continues to be extraordinarily stimulating and fruitful.”
