A mini course on Fluid-Structure Interaction will be given in the framework of AMMA and mathLab activities by Prof. Alfio Quarteroni (EPFL, Lausanne).
The mini course is organized as it follows:
Part I - Motivations; Fundamentals of Domain Decomposition (DD) Methods: Wednesday 24 September 2014, 3pm-5pm, room A-133
Part II - Fluid Structure Interaction (FSI) Problems and Solution Algorithms: Thursday 25 September 2014, 10:30am-12:30pm, room A-134
Part III - Application of DD-FSI Paradigms to Multiphysics Modeling: Thursday 25 September 2014, 2:30pm-4:30pm, room A-133
Abstract:
Fluid-structure interaction is a very interesting multi-physics and mathematical problem, dealing with the coupling of fluid dynamic effects (velocity, pressure of a fluid) with a structural component subject to stress and deformation.
Fluid-structure interaction is studied in several fields: biomedicine (interaction of blood with arterial vessels), applied biology (motility), aeronautical, naval, structural and mechanical engineering: from off-shore structures to sport applications (sails, swimmers, ...).
The mathematical foundations and several numerical methodologies (with recent advances) to face these problems will be presented.
