SISSA mourns the passing of Gianfausto Dell’Antonio.
Gianfausto Dell’Antonio graduated in Milan in 1955 and, after a period of training abroad, became a professor at the University of Naples in 1961 and later, from 1974, at Sapienza University of Rome, where he remained as Professor Emeritus after retirement. From the mid-1980s onwards, he played a decisive role in the development of the field of mathematical physics at SISSA, supervising the doctoral research of a large number of young scientists and guiding them into academic life.
He is remembered not only for his original and profound scientific contributions, internationally recognised in the fields of dynamical systems, quantum mechanics and quantum field theory, but also for his ability to build deep human relationships and sincere friendships with colleagues and students alike. He was a mentor to more than one generation of mathematical physicists.
The breadth of his scientific interests and his intellectual curiosity are reflected in the many collaborations he established over more than fifty years of activity, and in the lasting appreciation for both his scientific insight and his human qualities.
The funeral will take place in Trieste on Saturday, 24 January at 12:00, at the Parrocchia dei Santi Andrea e Rita.
