From artificial intelligence to big data, from digital twins to high-performance computing: these are some of the central topics of the 2025 edition of the biennial conference of the Italian Society of Applied and Industrial Mathematics (SIMAI), which will take place from September 1 to 5 at SISSA. The event will bring together over 300 experts in mathematical models and methods and their applications to industrial, environmental, and real-world problems.
One of the key moments of SIMAI 2025 will be the public lecture given by Wil Schilders, President of the International Council for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (ICIAM) and Emeritus Professor at Eindhoven University of Technology (Netherlands). The lecture will take place on September 3, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. in the Friuli Venezia Giulia Regional Government Palace in Piazza Unità d’Italia and will be accessible upon registration only. Entitled Mathematics: A Catalyst for National Prosperity and Sustainable Innovation, and organized with the support of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, the lecture will address highly topical scientific issues, showing how mathematics plays a key role in understanding and solving complex real-life problems. In this sense, the initiative has a strategic significance in strengthening the link between scientific research, institutions, and citizens, contributing to the development of a shared culture of innovation and knowledge.
Aligned with this vision are the two sessions dedicated to industries and innovation ecosystems, scheduled for September 4, 2025, starting at 2:30 p.m. in SISSA’s Aula Magna. The first session, focusing on innovation ecosystems and the local area, will feature delegates of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, representatives of SMACT Competence Center, the iNEST Consortium (Interconnected Nord-Est Innovation Ecosystem), and the ERC (European Research Council). The second session, centered on industries and start-ups, will include speakers from SISSA’s startup FAST Computing, from Bio4Dreams, and from companies such as Danieli, Lombardi Ingegneria, and Rachael.
The 2025 edition of the Conference is organized by SIMAI with SISSA and CIMNE – International Center for Numerical Methods in Engineering – under the patronage of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, with the support of Io Sono Friuli Venezia Giulia (regional tourism promotion), SISSA mathLab, FAST Computing, and the iNEST Consortium.
