Gianluigi Rozza, Professor of Numerical Analysis and Scientific Computing at SISSA – International School for Advanced Studies has been awarded the Gili Agostinelli Prize by the Academy of Sciences of Turin for the year 2025. This international recognition is conferred on scholars who have distinguished themselves through outstanding contributions in specific scientific fields—in Rozza’s case, applied mathematics. “A recognition that deeply honors me: the list of awardees in applied mathematics includes prominent names and even two Fields Medalists,” commented the SISSA professor.
The prize citation highlights the mathematician’s pivotal role in the numerical analysis of partial differential equations in mathematical physics, particularly in fluid dynamics, with significant applications in industrial mathematics, engineering, and the physical and natural sciences.
"I am pleased to see applied mathematics recognized for its central role across many sectors, from industry to medicine," continues Rozza, "especially in these years of major transformations marked by the rise of high-performance scientific computing, data science, artificial intelligence, and digital twins."
The Gili Agostinelli Prize is an international award established through a bequest by Cataldo Agostinelli, former president of the Academy, in memory of himself and his wife, Angiola Gili. It is reserved for outstanding figures in the following fields: pure or applied mechanics; classical mathematical physics; mathematics applied to the physical, natural sciences or engineering; biological or medical sciences.
