“Friuli Venezia Giulia is the place where I’ve been able to fulfill so many professional dreams, first and foremost thanks to SISSA, but also thanks to the many local organizations working to promote initiatives related to research and technology transfer; among these is the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, with its infrastructure, planning, and initiatives in support of research. Receiving this recognition makes me feel even more a part of this system and I am honored by it.” This is how Gianluigi Rozza, Professor of Numerical Analysis and Scientific Computing at SISSA, commented on his nomination as one of the first Future Vision Generators of the new regional FVG Ambassador Program. The nomination was announced during the inaugural ceremony held yesterday afternoon at Teatro Lirico Giuseppe Verdi in Trieste.
Promoted by PromoTurismoFVG with the endorsement of the President of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, the program aims to recognize leading figures from academia and the business community who have contributed to “strengthening the Region’s reputation, attractiveness, and scientific and professional networks worldwide”. Rozza was appointed in the category dedicated to Ambassadors for Congresses, Conferences and International Events. Through his activities, the Region notes, “Friuli Venezia Giulia has strengthened its international visibility and its dialogue with networks of excellence around the world”.
Rozza is an active figure in the field of applied and computational mathematics, both nationally and internationally. He has served as President of SIMAI—the Italian Society for Applied and Industrial Mathematics—since 2025 and, since July 2026, as Vice President of ECCOMAS—the European Community on Computational Methods in Applied Sciences. The recognition within the FVG Ambassador Program is linked in particular to the SIAM UQ24 conference, organized in Trieste in 2024 by the SISSA mathLab group with the support of the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM), which brought over 1,000 international researchers in the city.
