The initiative “Da Miramare al Cosmo” returns for its second edition, featuring four public science outreach events on a range of research topics. The series is organised by the Institute for Fundamental Physics of the Universe (IFPU) in collaboration with Miramare Castle and supported by SISSA Medialab.

The first event, entitled “The Quantum Origins of the Universe”, will take place on 24 September 2025 at 5 PM, and will be led by Paolo Creminelli of the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP).

“What is the origin of the structures we observe in the universe around us? The most plausible explanation lies in microscopic quantum fluctuations present in the early universe. These fluctuations were amplified by gravity, giving rise to galaxies, stars, planets, and everything we see today. We will discuss the theoretical foundations of this idea, known as cosmic inflation, and the observational evidence that supports it.”

Next in the series:

  • 22 October 2025, 5:00 PM - The Song of the Universe (Edoardo Milotti | University of Trieste & National Institute for Nuclear Physics)
  • 19 November 2025, 5:00 PM - Massimiliano and the Birth of the Trieste Astronomical Observatory (Paolo Molaro | Trieste Astronomical Observatory)
  • 10 December 2025, 5:00 PM - Cosmic Archaeology: Observing the Fossils of the Big Bang (Nicoletta Krachmalnicoff | SISSA)

Please note that all events are held in Italian. Attendance at the events is by registration only. There are 60 available spots per event, assigned in order of registration. Each registered participant will receive a free admission ticket to the Museum, offered by IFPU, which also allows access to Miramare Castle and the exhibition Ars Botanica.
