PhD for innovation

On Thursday 4 July at 11 am, SISSA will host an event as part of the PhD for Innovation programme, in the Big Meeting Room (7th floor).

The guest speaker will be Xiaochuan (Giovanni) Ge, a SISSA alumnus and now Vice President of Engineering at AppLovin, a company that develops technologies to help businesses of all sizes connect to their ideal customers. Under Giovanni’s leadership, AppLovin’s Research Science team develops AI models on a global scale, builds state-of-the-art recommendation systems, and manages one of the world’s largest ad exchanges.

Before joining AppLovin, Giovanni led research in machine learning at Meta, BlackRock and Uber. He holds a PhD in Condensed Matter and Materials Physics from SISSA and earned his undergraduate degree at the University of Science and Technology of China.

During the event, Giovanni will share his journey — which began right here at SISSA — and reflect on how mindset, choices and opportunities can shape a successful career, both inside and beyond academia.

The event will take place in a relaxed, open atmosphere, with plenty of space for questions and discussion.
