In the year dedicated by the Miramare Museum to initiatives for scientific dissemination and exploration, the cycle of 'Grandi Incontri' resumes with four events titled 'Da Miramare al Cosmo,' curated by IFPU (Institute for Fundamental Physics of the Universe of Trieste) with the support of SISSA Medialab. The events are organized under the program agreement between the Miramare Museum and SISSA.
The first event, titled “The Description of a Moment: A Brief History of Time” will take place in the Sala del Trono of the Miramare Museum on 23 October, 2024, at 5:00 PM, and will be held by Stefano Liberati (SISSA), Director of the Institute for Fundamental Physics of the Universe.
"The understanding of time has undergone an extraordinary evolution throughout the history of human thought," explains Liberati. "In this seminar, we will explore the main milestones of this journey, starting from Aristotle's philosophical conception, where time is intimately linked to motion and change, up to Einstein's revolutionary vision in the theory of relativity, where space and time merge into a single entity, spacetime. We will then go further, examining the challenges that quantum gravity poses to our understanding of time and reflecting on the possible origin of the 'arrow of time' in the light of modern cosmological theories."
The other events, organized by IFPU, are:
- 27 November 2024, 5:00 PM
In Search of Our Cosmic Origins
with Valentina D'Odorico (OATS) - 11 December 2024, 3:00 PM
Comets and Water
with Marco Fulle (OATS) - 22 January 2025, 3:00 PM
From Antarctica to Space: In Search of Dark Matter and Antimatter
with Mirko Boezio (INFN)
Please note that all events are held in Italian.
