SISSA joins “Le Università per Giulio Regeni” with a special event at Scienza e Virgola 2026

SISSA joins Le Università per Giulio Regeni, the initiative presented this morning in Rome at the Italian Senate and promoted by Senator for Life and scientist Elena Cattaneo, ten years after the disappearance in Egypt of the young Italian researcher.

Friday 8 May at 4 pm, at Teatro Miela SISSA will hold a special screening of the documentary Giulio Regeni – Tutto il male del mondo, produced by Fandango and Ganesh Produzioni, followed by a conversation his story and on the broader themes of freedom of research and human rights. The event will feature Giulio Regeni’s parents, Paola Deffendi and Claudio Regeni, together with lawyer Alessandra Ballerini. It will be moderated by Nico Pitrelli, director of SISSA’s Master in Science Communication “Franco Prattico”. This event will be part of the 10th edition of Scienza e Virgola, the science book festival organised by SISSA’s Interdisciplinary Laboratory from 7 to 10 May.

Over the course of April and May 2026, Universities for Giulio Regeni will involve 76 universities and more than 15,000 participants, including students, researchers, academic staff and members of the public. 

The event will be held in italian. Attendance is free, with registration required on the Scienza e Virgola website
