Gianluigi Rozza, professor at SISSA and expert in numerical analysis and scientific computing, is the new president of SIMAI (Italian Society of Applied and Industrial Mathematics). The announcement came after the SIMAI board meeting, held during the Society’s biennial conference, currently taking place at SISSA; the handover will take place during the general assembly scheduled for Thursday, September 4, at 5 p.m.
“Applied and industrial mathematics is playing an increasingly important role in the ongoing revolutions that are shaping many scientific and technological fields. A country that strategically looks to innovation has a pressing need to advance in applied and industrial mathematics,” said Rozza. “The new SIMAI board has placed great trust in me, which I translate into a great responsibility for SIMAI’s role within the Italian mathematical community.”
Founded in 1989, SIMAI aims to promote mathematical research in applied and industrial sciences, offering a vision of applied mathematics that can be transferred from academia to industry. It is characterized by an interdisciplinary approach, encompassing applications that range from technology to the biological, economic, and social sciences.
