The Master in Data Management and Curation, organised by Area Science Park, Istituto Officina dei Materiali (CNR-IOM), and SISSA, commenced this morning. This advanced programme is designed for early-career researchers who aim to develop expertise in data management, specifically following the FAIR principles, which are critical for research infrastructures.
Now in its first edition, the Master offers extensive training in data management, curation, cataloguing, and analysis —skills that are becoming increasingly vital in the scientific community. The programme aligns with the requirements of the European Commission and other funding bodies, which demand that data be handled according to the FAIR principles. These principles ensure that data are Findable (easily located), Accessible (available to those who need them), Interoperable (compatible with other datasets and tools), and Reusable (suitable for further research).
The nine-month programme includes 166 hours of theoretical lectures, followed by a seven-month practical phase, which takes place in the laboratories of the participants’ home institutions. The structure and curriculum are highly innovative, both at a national and international level, with a particular focus on the implementation of FAIR-by-design processes during the practical laboratory internship.
