Giuseppe Mussardo elected Ordinary Academician of Accademia delle Arti del Disegno

A prestigious award from the world's oldest art academy

"My two great passions in life are science and literature: I am particularly honoured that my efforts in this regard have received recognition from such a prestigious academy as the Accademia delle Arti del Disegno in Florence". This is how Giuseppe Mussardo, director of the Science and Society sector of SISSA's Interdisciplinary Laboratory, comments on his recent election as an Ordinary Academician of Accademia delle Arti del Disegno (i.e. Academy of the Arts of Design).

The Accademia delle Arti del Disegno, the oldest art academy in the world, encourages and promotes studies and events to promote all that is of artistic and historical interest. The goal is to keep alive the archetypal beauty through excellence in the artistic and scientific fields. The Accademia delle Arti del Disegno originated from Compagnia di San Luca, formed in 1339, whose members included personalities such as Donatello, Lorenzo Ghiberti, Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo Buonarroti.

Giuseppe Mussardo, Professor of Theoretical Physics at SISSA, was elected in the class dedicated to humanities and science, one of the five that compose the Accademia delle Arti del Disegno. Always passionate about the history of science, he is the author of numerous articles, books and documentary films/movies on this topic. His most recent works include: Tra cielo e terra. Story of a revolutionary mathematician (2017); Maksimovic. The Story of Bruno Pontecorvo (2013).
