The Interdisciplinary Laboratory for Natural and Humanistic Sciences (ILAS) of the International School for Advanced Studies (SISSA) and FACTA, an Italian independent media, are hosting a two-day workshop in Trieste on 20 and 21 May, bringing together journalists, scientists and artists to explore how difficult-to-observe environments can be investigated through remote sensing, satellite data and artificial intelligence, and how that data can be turned into compelling stories.

The workshop is part of the Educating Future Citizens (EFC) project, an initiative of the Italian Schools for Advanced Studies that provides guidance and advanced training opportunities, while strengthening international opportunities for high school students, university students and PhD candidates on cross-disciplinary and interdisciplinary topics. Funded by the Italian National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), EFC promotes innovative educational pathways based on seminars, residential activities, mentoring and interdisciplinary courses.

Beyond its programme, the workshop offers a broader perspective on the role of science today and on career paths beyond academia, showing what becomes possible when research and journalism work together, and how these collaborations open new spaces, often interwoven with artistic, journalistic and communication practice.

Attendance is free and open to the public, but registration is required. Places are limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

Applications are open until Friday 15th May at 12.00 PM.
